Do you know the true affects of laminating on our environment?

Do you know the true affects of laminating on our environment?

One of the key drivers of Papercoat is the positive affects we can have on the environment. I know. I know…. Everything is environmentally friendly these days and everything is doom and gloom. But, rather than contributing to the fear based content, we simply want to outline how bad laminating paper is. We never had any idea how bad it is and when you consider how much lamination happens everyday, we thought, we really have a message here - stop laminated paper landing in our landfills and use a product like Papercoat which is 100% recyclable. But why?

Why laminating isn’t recyclable

Paper is recyclable, so why isn’t laminated paper? Unfortunately, laminated paper can’t be recycled as the recycling process for paper is water. However, the process to recycle laminate (plastics) is heat. So, we can’t recycle paper without destroying the laminate and vice versa, we can’t recycle laminate without destroying the paper[i].

Laminated Paper in landfill

To make matters worse, the plastic used to laminate paper is nonbiodegradable meaning it contributes to the problem of landfill pollution[ii] Laminated paper in landfill will burn and release toxic fumes into the environment in hot conditions. In heavy rainfall, the erosion of these toxins will contribute to them travelling as a pollutant into our environment[iii].

What next?

Now we know that laminating paper makes the paper non-recyclable and nonbiodegradable we ask you to consider switching your laminated paper for Papercoat. Every Papercoat product you use reduces a piece of laminated paper ending up in landfill.

Let’s start with one sheet at a time. Get involved now and make the pledge to stop laminating paper now!
